The DC trip was terrifc. I haven't walked that much since . . . the last time I visited! DD was SO much fun to be with - this entire Intern experience has set her on fire for politics and law school. Which I find so ironic because we've told her since she was born, that she was destined for trial attorney fame due to her unwavering passion when arguing a point. Now that she's come around it's one of the moments that make you smile.

Here she is with her great-great-great Uncle, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall. Wonder what he thinks of today's short skirts?

This would make an ELEGANT jumper

I do so wish there were a more grownup name for a dress you wear over a blouse or turtleneck. If anyone has a suggestion please pass it along and I will cease saying "jumper".

Here is butterick 5521 and it's a strong candidate for the Lucky Jumper. The photo does not show a sample made with sleeves although sleeves are included. If this dress could be morphed with raglan sleeves we'd have a winner.

Still I'll pick this one up on the next pattern sale, and in the meantime be on the lookout for a different sleeve to work into this very adult "jumper".

Maybe it's the pattern.

Or mayble it's that nauseating fabric. The one with mustard, ketchup and relish all swirling together into one cracktastic African melange. Yes, that's it.

Pattern goes back into the envelope; it deserves much better fabric than I was trying to give it.

As for the fabric, it's day will come. Just not this year.

Accessory time!

Now that I have a new skirt I need a little pop of fun on top! Here is a Lands End cotton scarf from its Canvas line. With the upcoming DC trip just five days away I took it out for a test drive today with the Simplicity 2451 skirt. It matches very nicely!

The colors are a great palette for spring through fall. Although I can't say I'm loving the cotton tassels on the ends they do add extra color . Today I wore the scarf and skirt to church, paired with a simple white cotton shell. Temps and humidity are comparable to being braised . . . lots of heat and steam. It passed the comfort test, so it's a shoo-in for DC.

I found it in Lucky Magazine - an issue from 2010, sorry but I don't know what month - whilst waiting on haircolor to "do". Isn't it great? SO perfect with a pair of boots this fall. I like the split v-neck seam which is topstitched to perfection. All in all, a very tailored, timeless dress for women of a certain age.

What pattern? The hunt is on . . .
