Good basic look ripe for tailoring

This caught my eye on a vintage clothes site. Why?
I like the houndstooth pattern, open collar and pockets. The sleeves are nicely set, but it's a little boxy for modern tastes. Vertical waist darts would help. The longer length is good, still, since I carry lots of "aft" to my "fore". But what really turned me on was the effect of a sim belt. Voila'! Instant style.
The belt gives it more shape: I can see this becoming a weekend fall/winter staple with trim jeans or slacks, quality belt and boots. Add a nice leather bag and you've got style! Will look for a pattern that offers this basic shape, only a little less shirt-like. The wardrobe awaits.
